CAROLINE LAVER

Welcome to my music space where passion meets learning! Here, I thrive on music and am dedicated to sharing my love for it with eager learners.

I am excited to offer lessons in singing, piano, clarinet, and recorder.

The world of singing is incredibly diverse, and I take delight in guiding my students on a journey of musical exploration.

For me, singing is all about igniting a love for songs, lyrics, and performances while mastering vocal techniques.

Music is more than just an art form; it is a form of therapy that nurtures the soul.

Caroline's story

Caroline is a professional musician, vocalist, and teacher based on Mersea Island, where she runs a welcoming and inclusive music studio offering vocal and piano tuition. Teaching is at the heart of her work, and she enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities—from complete beginners to advanced performers. Every lesson is carefully tailored to support each student’s individual goals, learning style, and musical interests.

With an extensive vocal range, Caroline is equally at home performing contemporary repertoire—from artists such as Adele—as she is classical works by composers including Mozart. Her versatility as a performer informs her teaching, helping students build strong technique while developing confidence, musicality, and expression.

Music has been Caroline’s lifelong passion, particularly singing, which captured her imagination from an early age. She began her musical journey singing in a church choir at the age of eight. At thirteen, she was awarded a music scholarship to Ardingly College for voice and clarinet, achieving notable success at the Mid-Sussex Music Festival. Early in her career, she toured Austria and Southern Germany with two musical ensembles.

Caroline’s professional experience spans a wide range of genres and settings. She has worked as a classical soloist, performed with a jazz trio, and appeared in numerous function bands. Alongside her performance career, she has taught in schools and colleges across North-East Essex and Suffolk. In 2008, she completed a teaching course with ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), earning a recognised teaching certificate.

Her work in musical theatre includes performing with TheatreTrain at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. She later went on to run her own theatre academy, producing shows and musicals in local theatres.

Caroline continues to perform regularly as lead singer and saxophonist with the Wully Bully Soul Band, bringing the same passion, professionalism, and joy for music to both the stage and the studio.

Music was my first love and it will be my last
Music of the future and music of the past
To live without my music would be impossible to do
In this world of troubles My music pulls me through -John Miles

VOCALISE CHOIR

Vocalise Community Choir was founded in 2009, beginning with just eight singers gathered in Caroline’s living room. As the choir quickly grew, it soon outgrew that space, leading to a brief move to the local primary school before finally establishing its home at West Mersea Parish Church.

Since those early days, Vocalise has flourished into a vibrant and welcoming community choir with a current membership of around 80 singers. The choir’s repertoire spans a wide range of musical genres, reflecting the diverse ages, backgrounds, and musical tastes of its members.

Vocalise performs regularly within the local community, with concerts traditionally held at Christmas and in the spring, alongside appearances at various fundraising and community events throughout the year. At its heart, the choir is about bringing people together through music, building confidence, connection, and joy in singing.

In 2026, the Vocalise legacy continued to grow with the opening of a new branch in Tiptree, extending the choir’s reach and welcoming even more singers into the Vocalise family.
